One of my fondest memories of my time at MTA was in 1972-73, when Prime Minister Golda Meir came to speak at YU. She was scheduled to speak in the Lamport Auditorium and the Israeli equivalent of our Secret Service wanted to know how to get up into the ceiling where the 48 lattice work arches are located. It seemed that no one in the management side knew how to get into the ceiling.
I was a senior at MTA and a member of the “Service Squad” and crawled over ducts and other mechanical/piping items to show them how to access the area. While it was a college event, a small number of seats were reserved for the high school and I was lucky enough to attend. Her speech was thrilling and the joyous eruption of “Am Yisroel Chai” at the end will always stay in my memory.
